About Us ...

 Mission Statement:

New Beginnings Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation is dedicated to the compassionate care of horses.  Our mission is to save, protect, and rehabilitate horses in need.  We rescue abused, neglected, and/or abandoned animals; provide them with love, care and rehabilitation.  Ultimately our goal is to find them a compatible, loving home.  We believe that education and proper training is the long-term solution to improving the lives of these animals.

Our Goal:

New Beginnings not only takes in rescued and surrendered horses, but fully rehabilitates each animal by training each one based on the sport that is best suited for the horse.  Our goal is to eliminate the "Cheap Horse" stigma that these animals tend to fall under.  We would prefer to give these horses a second chance at being winners.  These animals are worthy of investment.  Over the 24 years of my experience, many folks purchase cheap horses based on youthfulness, color and/or beauty.  This basis for finding a long-term companion will not get horse owners very far.  After finding that these characteristics do not make a good horse, owners tend to fall back on this "Cheap Horse" mentality and rather than investing a few $$ to properly train the horse or correct behavioral issues, these animals start their venture down the road of abuse and neglect.

Our Services:

Free Educational Services Many owners are in need of educational knowledge when it comes to properly providing and caring for a horse.  Often times when neglected animals are reported the findings suggest owners simply don't know what they are suppose to do.  New Beginnings would like to offer our FREE services in providing educational knowledge in caring for these animals.

Surrendering A Horse If you have an animal in your care that is either unwanted or has been abandoned, or was injured and needs medical attention, you may call us for help.  If the animal has been neglected you may surrender the animal confidentially without the authorities intervening, however...it only takes one complaint to bring the authorities to your doorstep.  Do not contribute to the abuse or neglect of these animals.

Donating A Horse – Donated horses will be trained and rehabilitated before finding their final long-term home.  They will go through the same adoption process that we use for all of our rescues.  Owners may use their donation as a taxable deduction.

Body Condition Scoring - New Beginnings has been certified by the United States Humane Society for body condition scoring through the use of the Henneke Body Scoring system.  This system was devised to evaluate each horse individually, and to determine the current status of body weight.  Because horses differ in conformation and fat distribution, six different areas of the body are scored individually.  Scores are then averaged to determine the overall Body Condition Score.

Policy on Adoptions:

New Beginnings does not fall under the typical adoption processes.  We take the time and care needed to fully rehabilitate these animals, if possible, to show quality.  For this reason alone we do not adopt these animals for a "Cheap Horse" fee.  Many of our horses require surgical procedures to correct previous injuries that are currently disabling.  We would prefer to not adopt a horse out that needs further treatment, but to adopt a fully rehabilitated animal with a new beginning.   If you have any questions or concerns about our adoption fees, please feel free to contact us for further information @ rescue@newbeginningshorse.com.

Donations...

February 2008 - One of our wonderful adopters has donated some newer blankets and riding gear.  Donations of this kind are always welcomed due to the fact that we go through blankets pretty quick around here due to differing sizes of each horse.  Also we can never receive too much equipment or supplies.  We have quite a variety of horses in need of special equipment.

January 2008 - Koda's new owner supplied us with a wonderful donation of 1 ton of hay, supplements and horse equipment.  This could not have come at a better time.  Thanks so much for your support.

Recent News...

This has been an incredible season!!!  We adopted 13 horses to wonderful homes and have 1 more that has gone to a foster home.  I can't tell you how many times I wonder if there are enough responsible owners out there that can take these rescues in, but than a miracle happens and you all come out of the wood work!  Thanks again for all your support.

Last September we had a booth at the Stanwood Harvest Jubilee Festival, thrown by Skagit Farmers Supply.  We had a wonderful time and excellent turn-out.  We had over 150 children attend our booth and learn how to brush and care of a horse.  I was super excited to see so many youngsters asking some really important questions.  This year we are on the committee for the Harvest Jubilee and plan to schedule a farm tour rather than a booth.  If you are interested in finding out more, please feel free to email us @ Rescue@NewBeginningsHorse.com

Winter is here!!!  With the overwhelming numbers of horses we have at this time, we are asking for donations of feed, buckets, water heaters and of course money to help keep these guys taken care of through the rough season.  Please contact us if you would like to help or donate something to our Skagit Farmers Supply account under "New Beginnings Horse Rescue"
